The National Housing Conference is excited to host our first in-person event since the pandemic began, Solutions for Housing Communications, on March 30th, 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the National Press Club. We look forward to being with you at this unique event, the only national convening of housing communications leaders from around the country. This event is sponsored by JP Morgan Chase.
Solutions for Housing Communications is a great opportunity to exchange ideas and get inspiration from a wide range of housing communications experts. Speakers representing local governments, housing authorities, housing finance agencies, financial institutions, intermediaries, and advocacy coalitions are expected to attend and participate in a series of panel discussions. Get inspired with speakers who have a range of expertise from media relations and digital communications to advocacy campaigns.
The convening will begin with keynote remarks from Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League and former Mayor of New Orleans. Mr. Morial’s extensive experience promoting pro-housing policies that benefit underserved communities make him eminently qualified to speak to the importance of effective and coordinated communication by housers.
Our luncheon session is with author and blogger Matthew Yglesias of Slow Boring, Vox co-founder, and author credited with galvanizing the Yes In My Back Yard (YIMBY) movement. NHC board member, Ali Solis of S3 Advisory Services, will lead a conversation about covering housing policies across many media.
This year’s panelists are national experts who will provide insights and strategies on how housing organizations communicate with policymakers, the media, stakeholders, and their constituents. Here’s what we have planned:
- Combatting NIMBYism with Matthew Lewis, California YIMBY and Jenny Schuetz, Brookings Metro
- Marketing Homeownership in Communities of Color with Marcia Griffin, HomeFreeUSA; Lot Diaz Unidos US; and Gisele Roget Overbrook Square Group
- Making Data Digestible with Anne Kat Alexander, Eviction Lab; and Chris Ptomey, Urban Land Institute
- Best Practices in Emergency Rental Assistance and Homeowner Assistance Fund Implementation with Llewellyn Anderson, Virginia Housing; Meg Burns, Housing Policy Council; and Jennifer Schwartz, National Council of State Housing Agencies
NHC is committed to your safety and to upholding all applicable health and safety measures. Solutions for Housing Communications is a mask-optional event with proof of full vaccination and temperature screening required. We will be limiting attendance to 200, two-thirds of the National Press Club’s capacity, with an option to stream the convening online. We are encouraged that Washington, DC’s current COVID-19 Community Level is classified as low and that the CDC reports a continuing downward trend.
This exciting day closes with a networking reception for housing communicators to connect and build relationships with one another while interacting with industry partners. Now’s the time to register, as there is limited capacity to preserve health and safety measures. We hope to see you there.
