Don’t miss NHC’s Solutions for Housing Communications Convening
From rising rents to the growing shortage of homes, the housing crisis is affecting families and communities nationwide. Policymakers at every level are facing increasing pressure to respond amid a polarized political environment and heightened public scrutiny. Yet solving the crisis depends not only on policy, but on how effectively we communicate what’s at stake, counter misinformation, and build durable bipartisan support for housing solutions.
Recognizing this moment, the National Housing Conference will host Solutions for Housing Communications on April 8, 2026, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, bringing together housing communicators to align messages, elevate impact, and help shape the policy debates unfolding in Washington and beyond.
This one-of-a-kind event is the only national convening dedicated exclusively to housing communications, bringing together housing experts, thought leaders, policymakers, and journalists for a full day of dynamic discussions. Attendees will explore proven and emerging communications and messaging strategies to elevate public understanding of the importance of affordable housing both nationally and within local communities.
During the panel, “Inside the Newsroom: What Housing Reporters Need Now,” Rachel Siegel, Reporter at The Washington Post; Katy O’Donnell, Reporter at Bloomberg; and Victoria Guida, Economics Correspondent at POLITICO, will share what makes a story stand out today, how advocates can be credible and responsive sources, and where housing coverage is heading amid economic and political uncertainty.
In the session, “From Technical to Tangible: Communicating Complex Housing Issues,” housing and communications leaders will explore strategies for translating complex housing concepts into clear, compelling narratives. Panelists will share practical approaches to simplifying language, framing impact, and using data responsibly, demonstrating how to maintain accuracy while making housing policy more accessible through real-world examples.
The interactive session, “Communicating with Confidence in Today’s Media Landscape,” provides communications professionals with practical strategies for engaging on public platforms. In today’s media landscape, clarity, precision, and message discipline are more critical than ever. Attendees will learn how to craft compelling messages, navigate interviews with confidence, and stay on message under pressure.
