On December 3, the National Housing Conference hosted its Solutions for Affordable Housing convening at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. This convening serves as a platform for fostering connections among a diverse range of affordable housing stakeholders, encompassing officials from municipal bodies, charitable foundations, non-profit organizations, real estate developers, lenders, and beyond. Our focus is on housing priorities that are tangible, impactful, and achievable.
Attendees built a deeper understanding of key national housing issues and the interplay between federal, state, and local policies that shape them. Sessions will provide participants with valuable insights to enhance their understanding of how their organization’s objectives align with the broader national housing strategy.

Fireside Chat with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA.)
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee, sat down with NHC’s President and CEO David Dworkin to discuss the evolving role of the federal government in shaping America’s housing landscape and what it will take to tackle the supply crisis facing communities nationwide. They also touched on the future of consumer protections and the role of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

During this panel, experts discussed how to strengthen rental subsidies amid declining voucher success rates, longer search times, and shifting budgets. They also explore practical solutions—from landlord incentives to Moving to Work flexibilities—to improve affordability and access.

Panelists examined how these policies are being implemented, assessed early outcomes, and explored the practical challenges and opportunities they present.

This panel explored successful strategies and funding tools, including regional approaches and place-based solutions. Experts also discuss ways to strengthen community lenders and partnerships to increase access to financing and support sustainable rural housing.
Homebuilding Innovations: Manufactured Housing, ADUs, and Urban Infill
This panel highlighted how solutions such as manufactured housing, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and urban infill are reshaping the housing landscape. Drawing on real-world partnerships with local governments, developers, and housing nonprofits, the discussion showcased examples of how these innovations are being scaled to deliver more affordable homeownership opportunities.
Ending Homelessness: Successful Strategies for Sustainable Results
Panelists discussed the evolving dialogue on homelessness, the practices that work, and opportunities to strengthen support systems. The conversation highlighted how aligning goals and strategies can improve responses for individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
