Leading experts in housing, mortgage finance & community development to discuss 2021 housing priorities

The National Housing Conference (NHC) will host Solutions for Affordable Housing, an online convening exploring bipartisan policy solutions to address housing’s most pressing challenges. The event will feature a roster of influential experts in housing, homebuilding, lending, homelessness, community development and federal, state and local government. Sessions will cover a wide range of issues, including turning the housing supply crisis into an economic opportunity, addressing the affordable rental crisis, closing the Black homeownership gap, the future of the Community Reinvestment Act and more.

Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard to discuss CRA at NHC’s National Advisory Council meeting on Oct. 20

The National Housing Conference (NHC) is pleased to announce Federal Reserve Board Governor Lael Brainard will join the organization for its National Advisory Council (NAC) meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to discuss the Federal Reserve Board’s plans following the release of its September Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to modernize the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m. with introductions from NAC co-chairs Barry Zigas, senior fellow at Consumer Federation of America, and Jackie O’Garrow, former Bank of America executive, followed by remarks from NHC President and CEO David Dworkin on NHC’s National Housing Act and other housing priorities.

NHC strongly endorses Federal Reserve’s approach to CRA

Today, the Federal Reserve Board voted unanimously to approve an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) to modernize the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). The National Housing Conference (NHC) applauds the Fed’s approach taken in the ANPR, which lays the groundwork for aligning all three regulators – including the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) – in a united regulatory regime, and is likely to improve investment to low- and moderate-income households and communities, and clarify examination requirements.

NHC applauds extended foreclosure protections, calls on Congress for rental assistance

Today, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the extension of their respective foreclosure and eviction moratoriums through Dec. 31. Originally set to expire on Aug. 31, the moratoriums apply to single family mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) or backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.

31 housing organizations tell administration and Congress to immediately return to negotiations

In an Aug. 21 letter, a broad group of 31 housing groups urged congressional leaders and the administration to return to negotiations on a stimulus package to protect renters, property owners and the stability of the nation’s rental housing stock. “We implore you to immediately return to the negotiating table and reach agreement on rental assistance and broader relief legislation that keeps people in their homes,” the letter stated.
