WASHINGTON—“Housing finance reform is the greatest remaining housing policy challenge from the financial crisis of 2008. The white paper from the Mortgage Bankers Association released today advances the policy discussion to resolve this issue constructively and reflects their concerted outreach to many housing stakeholders. The National Housing Conference is especially pleased to see the detailed proposals for supporting affordable homeownership and rental housing through a mix of market mechanisms and direct funding from the secondary market. The continuum of housing need, from the people experiencing homelessness to burdened renters to the wealthiest homeowners, guides the MBA’s recommendations and should guide our national response to the range of housing challenges.”
About NHC: Everyone in America should have equal opportunity to live in a quality, affordable home in a thriving community. The National Housing Conference educates decision makers and the public about housing policies and practices to move housing forward together. NHC convenes and collaborates with our diverse membership and the broader housing and community development sectors to advance our policy, research and communications initiatives to effect positive change at the federal, state and local levels. Founded in 1931, we are a nonpartisan, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. NHC’s research team operated as the Center for Housing Policy until the organizations merged in 2013.
