Washington, D.C., June 16, 2026 – David M. Dworkin, President and CEO of the National Housing Conference (NHC), released the following statement regarding the Senate’s updated version of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act:

“The National Housing Conference strongly supports the updated 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and hopes Congress will move swiftly to send this legislation to President Trump’s desk.

The new package builds upon the overwhelming bipartisan support that housing legislation has received in both chambers this year. By combining the strongest elements of the House- and Senate-passed bills, the legislation would expand housing supply, improve affordability, modernize federal housing programs, strengthen disaster recovery tools, support public housing preservation, and provide communities with additional tools to address the nation’s housing shortage.

Housing affordability remains one of the most pressing challenges facing American families, and it deserves the kind of bipartisan cooperation that has characterized this effort from the beginning. There is no magic wand that will fix this crisis overnight, and no single piece of legislation is perfect. Compromise demands that. But this bill is a significant down payment on a long-term effort to make housing more affordable for all Americans. We look forward to the House and Senate passing this compromise legislation and seeing it signed by President Trump.

NHC will join our members in rolling up our sleeves to help the Trump administration expeditiously write regulations to implement the law, while working on the next phase of affordable housing legislation.”
