WASHINGTON, April 28, 2022 — The National Housing Conference (NHC) is pleased to announce honorees to be celebrated at our Annual Housing Visionary Awards Gala on June 14, 2022, at the Anthem in Washington, D.C. This year’s honorees are distinguished leaders in housing and community development whose work has helped move our nation toward NHC’s goal of decent, affordable housing for all.

This year’s recipients of NHC’s Housing Visionary Award will be David Adame, Jim King, and Pamela Patenaude. NHC will also present Nan Roman, CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, with the Carl A.S. Coan, Sr., Award for Public Service.

David Adame is president and CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), one of the country’s largest Hispanic community development organizations. Adame’s tenure at CPLC has seen the organization undergo significant expansion and play a leading role in distributing housing assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before CPLC, Adame held several community development roles in the Phoenix area, including at Fannie Mae’s Arizona Partnership Office and the Phoenix Office of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.

Jim King is president and CEO of Fahe, a network of over 50 nonprofits across Appalachia working to advance regional prosperity through housing, education, health, social services, and economic opportunity. King joined Fahe in 1990 as one of the organization’s first staff members and has been the organization’s president since 2000.

Pamela Hughes Patenaude is an accomplished real estate, housing policy, and disaster recovery expert with a four-decade record of success as an executive in government, nonprofit sector, and private industry. Patenaude is an Independent Director of loanDepot, Inc. (NYSE: LDI) and an Independent Director for Target Hospitality, Corp. (NASDAQ: TH). Additionally, Patenaude serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity International as well as the Board of Directors for the Bipartisan Policy Center. Patenaude is a Trustee and Vice Chairman of the Home Builders Institute (HBI). Patenaude is also a member of the Social Impact Advisory Board for the Center Creek Housing Funds. Patenaude is Principal of Granite Housing Strategies, LLC, serving as a strategic advisor for clients engaged in real estate development, affordable housing, and disaster recovery management. Patenaude served as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As HUD’s Chief Operating Officer, Patenaude managed the day-to-day operations of the $52 billion cabinet level agency with a diverse portfolio of federal housing and community development programs.

The Carl A.S. Coan, Sr., Award for Public Service is a special, non-annual award given in recognition of extraordinary lifetime achievements. Nan Roman has been a leading voice on innovative solutions for ending homelessness in communities across the country and has worked closely with Congress and executive agencies to ensure decent housing for all Americans.

“The Housing Visionary and Carl A.S. Coan, Sr., Lifetime Achievement Awards are among the most prestigious in the field of affordable housing and community development,” said David M. Dworkin, NHC president and CEO. “Nan Roman’s leadership of the National Alliance to End Homelessness is a shining example of how much we can do to improve our communities and the lives of our neighbors. Jim King has been an inspiration to housing leaders throughout America. Pamela Patenaude is a major influencer in the nation on addressing the housing affordability and the homelessness crisis. David Adame has long understood that housing is the foundation of economic growth, and his career reflects the recognition that stable housing leads to stable livelihoods.”
