Washington, DC, February 25, 2025 – A broad coalition of housing industry organizations announced their strong support for Jonathan McKernan to serve as the next Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). In a joint letter, the undersigned organizations urged the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs to swiftly approve McKernan’s nomination and send it to the Senate floor for confirmation.
“Mr. McKernan brings a wealth of experience in housing finance and financial regulation,” the letter states. “He has the expertise and thoughtfulness necessary to support a transparent, effective Bureau that upholds both its responsibility to consumers and the housing market.”
The coalition stressed the importance of safe, affordable lending and resilient, liquid markets that better serve borrowers and support affordable housing. They emphasized McKernan’s commitment to working with industry stakeholders, consumer advocates, and bipartisan policymakers to ensure “affordable and fair lending practices, and safeguard the safety and soundness of the market, for every American.”
