COVID-19 and HUD’s role in assisting borrowers, renters, lenders and property owners

May 1, 2020

Government support to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on our country’s housing system continues to be critical as more and more Americans face financial insecurity. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) have taken steps to address COVID-19, including mandating the halt of all foreclosures and evictions of single family homeowners with FHA-insured mortgages, requiring FHA Multifamily program participants to cease evictions of tenants for non-payment of rent for 120 days, and rolling out new mortgage payment relief options for both single family and multifamily borrowers.

FHA Commissioner Brian Montgomery and other HUD officials joined NHC for our COVID-19 Webinar Series to discuss continued steps HUD and FHA are taking to assist borrowers, renters, lenders and property owners.
