SUMMARY:How it Works: Financing and Servicing of Motel and Hotel Conversions (Part II)
DESCRIPTION:In our recent webinar\, It Works: Converting Motels and Hotels into Affordable Housing\, our panelists shared what is happening at the state level. The National Housing Conference hosted a second event that took a deeper dive into local initiatives for successful hotel/motel conversions at the county and city level. This webinar focused on collaborations between developers and service providers\, innovative financing approaches\, as well as several successful conversion projects. \n  \n \nSpeakers\n\n\n\nJulia Welle Ayres is a housing development and finance director with Hennepin County\, Minnesota\, where she oversees single-family home preservation and financing of homeownership opportunities and multi-family housing and has launched the innovative Supportive Housing Strategy.\n\n\nMercedes Brown is Michigan director and hotels to housing initiative manager at CSH. In this role\, she is responsible for establishing CSH’s strategic priorities for the State of Michigan and providing leadership for the Michigan-based team. In this role\, she develops and implements statewide\, multi-sector strategies to maximize impact in high-need communities.\n\n\nMary-Margaret Lemons is president of Fort Worth Housing Solutions. She previously served as an attorney at a law firm specializing in oil and gas and earlier as General Counsel at a local $1.2 billion bank overseeing Risk Management\, Compliance and Vendor Management. Lemons serves on the Board of Trustees for the national Public Housing Authorities Directors Association and is a member of the Board of Directors for Downtown Fort Worth Inc.\, North Texas LEAD and the Apartment Association of Tarrant County.\n\n\n\n\nKelly Rider is the government relations manager at the King County Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS). In her role\, she leads legislative and policy efforts at the state\, county\, and city level regarding DCHS priorities on affordable housing\, homelessness\, behavioral health\, and human services for adults\, youth\, young adults\, and people with developmental disabilities.\n\n\nMary Tingerthal served as Commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency from 2011 to 2019. For the past two years\, she had led the Tingerthal Group LLC\, which provides consulting services to public and private organizations working to increase the availability of housing that is affordable to low and moderate-income families.\n\n\nMatt Vruggink is a partner at Ojala Holdings (“Ojala”)\, a privately owned real estate development firm located in Dallas\, TX that acquires and develops commercial and multifamily properties\, including market-rate\, mixed-income and affordable.
