DESCRIPTION:On June 8\, NHC held its 90th Annual Member Meeting. We were honored to have Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters join us. Chairwoman Waters discussed her legislation to address the racial wealth and homeownership gaps and praised NHC’s work to increase the Black homeownership rate\, sharing: \n“I’m grateful for NHC’s leadership in convening the Black Homeownership steering committee including my friends at the NAACP\, the National Urban League\, the Mortgage Bankers Association\, the National Association of REALTORS®\, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers and many others who are lending their critical expertise.” \nThe meeting also featured remarks from NHC Chair Anne McCulloch of the Housing Partnership Equity Trust and a presentation by NHC President and CEO David Dworkin on NHC’s FY2020 financial information and our 2021 policy initiatives. \nIf you would like to learn more about NHC membership\, click here. \n  \n \nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n \nFinancial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters is considered by many to be one of the most powerful women in American politics today. She has gained a reputation as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women\, children\, people of color and the poor. \nElected in November 2018 to her 15th term in the U.S. House of Representatives with more than 70 percent of the vote in the 43rd Congressional District of California\, Congresswoman Waters represents a large part of South Los Angeles including the communities of Westchester\, Playa Del Rey\, and Watts and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County comprised of Lennox\, West Athens\, West Carson\, Harbor Gateway and El Camino Village. The 43rd District also includes the diverse cities of Gardena\, Hawthorne\, Inglewood\, Lawndale\, Lomita and Torrance.\n\n\n\n \nDavid Dworkin is the 17th president and chief executive officer of the National Housing Conference\, the nation’s oldest housing coalition\, founded in 1931. Prior to joining NHC in 2018\, Mr. Dworkin was a senior policy adviser at the U.S. Department of the Treasury\, where he advised Treasury Department officials on matters related to housing and community development. He also served as a member of the President Barack Obama’s Detroit interagency team\, where his responsibilities included developing and implementing strategies to assist in the City of Detroit’s revitalization.\n\n\nAnne McCulloch is president and chief executive officer of Housing Partnership Equity Trust (HPET). She joined the HPET team in April 2017. Before HPET\, Anne devoted 18 years of her career to Fannie Mae\, where she served most recently as Senior Vice President for Credit and Housing Access. In that role\, she was responsible for emerging multicultural markets and expanding the availability and affordability of sustainable mortgage credit. Previously\, she was Deputy General Counsel for Fannie Mae’s multifamily finance business\, managing a 31-person legal team and a $200 billion book of rental housing debt and equity investments. Previously\, she served as Chief of Staff to Fannie Mae’s Chief Executive Officer and to the company’s first non-executive Chairman.
